But, Jan did not begin here. Jan grew up in many locations throughout Ontario, including the far North and military bases, as a child with her family of origin. Moving became a normal part of family life as her father was transferred from one location to another as a result of his specializations. After attending many public and high schools, Jan received her Bachelor’s degree from Wilfrid Laurier University with Majors in both Psychology and Sociology and a Minor in Religion and Culture. Her Masters of Theological Studies was earned at Wilfrid Laurier University/Waterloo Lutheran Seminary as was her Masters of Divinity equivalency. Jan enhanced her Clinical Training with a 3 year internship with Interfaith Family Counselling Centre, previously located in Cambridge, Ontario.

Jan continued on to earn her Doctoral degree at Wilfrid Laurier University/Waterloo Lutheran Seminary in Marriage and Family Therapy. Her Doctoral Dissertation was entitled “The impact of diagnostic labels” which looked at significant mental health diagnoses and whether the label was helpful or hindering for the individual.

Jan has developed specializations in Critical Incident Stress Management, Addictions, Mental Health, Relational and Domestic Violence, Individual, Couple and Family Therapy as well as Play Therapy. She has been a professor for over 18 years at both Heritage College and Seminary and Wilfrid Laurier University/Waterloo Lutheran Seminary teaching in the areas of Addictions, Mental Health, Psychopathology, Pre-Practicum, Relational Violence, Ethics, Critical Incident Stress Management, Sexual Health, Couple and Family Therapy and Human Development.

Jan enhanced her learning in the area of mental health through working full time with the Canadian Mental Health Association in both Kitchener and Cambridge. Her clinical experience was also enhanced in working full time in both short and long term residential addictions recovery programs for an extended period of time.

With her expertise and skills, Jan enjoys helping people create the life and relationships they desire for their future. If there is some way that Jan or someone from our organization can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to give us a call.
