Alcohol Addiction

Alcohol AddictionYou might be thinking right now that you have no difficulty with alcohol. Sure you enjoy having a drink but my question to you is — Are you drinking within safe drinking limits?

The safe drinking guidelines have been developed by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and is based on gender, age and standard drink size drinks. A standard drink (SD) is as follows:

  • 1 bottle/can of beer
  • 1.5 oz liquor
  • 5 oz wine
  • 1 King Can = 2 standard drinks

For males 19-64 years of age, the recommended limit is 14 standard drinks (SD) per week with never more than 2 SD within a 24-hour period.

For females 19-64 years of age, the recommended limit is 9 standard drinks (SD) per week with never more than 2 SD within a 24-hour period.

For both males and females 65 years of age and older, the recommended limit is 7 SD per week with never more than 1 SD within a 24-hour period.

So, I would encourage you to ask yourself whether you believe your drinking patterns are healthy. If you believe you need some help, or just want to talk about those patterns, we are here for you. Give us a call or connect and an appointment can be scheduled.
